Refresh (Capstone Project)
Refresh is an app designed to help users cut down on phone usage effectively. The goal was to tackle the issue of excessive screen time by building better habits through gamification and social accountability. As the designer and researcher, I focused on creating a calming and minimalistic design, using a blue and white palette to keep the interface simple and distraction-free. The logo, a refresh symbol with a lightning bolt, represents recharging and taking back control of your time. What makes this app unique is its social features—users can add friends and family to help keep them accountable and even require trusted contacts to approve changes to their goals or grant extra time on restricted apps. There is also a focus mode I call the refresh button, which allows the user to choose from the preset options or set a custom time limit to help them focus on whatever they have going on or force them to take a break from their phone, not just the limited apps. To support the app, I designed a fully functional website in Webflow focused on app promotion. Finally to wrap up the project all of the deliverables and research were compiled into a booklet. This project was a great opportunity to refine my skills in Figma prototyping, branding, and web design.
